Description
English: The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga (CVS-14) recovers a dummy Apollo command module, in December 1972. To prepare for the recovery of the Apollo 17 mission, the Ticonderoga took part in a simulated exercise ("SIMEX"): a dummy Apollo command module (called a "boilerplate") was set adrift in an arbitrary position in the ocean. The task was then to locate an recover the "boilerplate" and its crew.
