Summary

Description

The sultan of the Turkish Empire gave the cannon to the sultan of Aceh in the years 1631-1636. The piece reads HM Ibn Schah âlan trill allâh, which means: "Son of the King of the World, the shadow of God in the world". The piece is said to have people tied with chains to be displayed and sold at the Aceh slave market . The Indian Army captured the gun from Aceh and transported it to Bronbeek in 1875 as a war trophy. In 1881, King William III had the wreath of golden oak leaves placed on the cannon as a gift.
