Option to not add a self template when selecting custom licenses

[edit]

An example. There is already a {{Self}} tag in my custom license template, which leads to a duplicate {{Self}} tag. Steven Sun (talk) 09:16, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Steven Sun: Have you tried this:
  • Selecting "This work was created by someone else and it is free to share."
  • Section 1: "Enter a different licence" insert "{{User:Steven Sun/cc-by-sa-4.0}}"
  • Section 2 sounds like the line for source (so {{Own work}})
  • Section 3 is the author (so [[User:Steven Sun|Steven Sun]])
I know it's not a fix per se, but a fast workaround for a change that would probably take a year or so if suggested in the pipeline (not saying that it shouldn't be suggested, I'm saying that this might be the fast workaround that could work for you now) --D-Kuru (talk) 13:07, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
(cross-posted) @Steven Sun: Given the lack of current support for the Upload Wizard, I doubt this is going to happen in the foreseeable future, especially because it is an edge case. You might want to file this in Phabricator (nothing to lose), but for your own immediate purposes, as an experienced user: do you actually get enough benefit out of the Wizard to make it more useful to you than copy-pasting and using Special:Upload, and having complete control of what is produced? - Jmabel ! talk 13:09, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
This report sounds like a duplicate to Commons:Upload Wizard feedback/Archive/2025#Redundant template addition. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 13:24, 20 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you all for the advice. I will try the workaround in the next upload. Steven Sun (talk) 01:07, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
[edit]

Last couple of days when I've uploaded a photo, the link beneath the photo takes me to a page reading (e.g) "Not Found: Key "1c65wxvbei7k.xv91iw.5408.jpg" not found in stash." Seems to happen for every upload. Temporary glitch or newly introduced bug? Dave.Dunford (talk) 11:00, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Same, happens each times I checked (the uploads were all good) for a few days including today. Retired electrician (talk) 08:26, 26 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
This has now tracked in Phabricator at T408610. Thanks! Krinkle (talk) 22:08, 29 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
The bug still exists. I don't understand the technichese of the Phabricator. When will the bug be repaired? ---- Hans G. Oberlack (talk) 21:49, 31 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Seems to working OK for me now. Dave.Dunford (talk) 19:27, 5 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Could/Should it auto-add SDC?

[edit]

Right now, UploadWizard does two things with SDC (structured data): it sets P571 (inception) to the file's creation date, and allows the user to optionally set P180 (depicts) to whatever they want. However, this still leaves out a lot of SDC that are apparently considered important since it auto-puts the file in several of the "missing SDC" categories. This is of course means it is fixed by bots eventually, but this takes a long time since there's so much backlog, and it also feels unnessecary to give bots more work. Here's an example of SchlurcherBot adding SDC to a photo I uploaded, and it all appears to be info that a tool like UploadWizard could infer on its own.
So my question is whether we can let UploadWizard to add some or all this SDC automatically upon submission, thus lightening the load for the SDC bots? Or perhaps there's a technical or procedural reason that we don't? Rose Abrams (talk) 12:40, 3 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

For reference, here's the SDC that I've found that bots usually add and appears be simple enough to determine when submitting (provided the file has EXIF and/or coordinates to support it of course): P3575 (data size), P2048 (height), P2049 (width), P1163 (media type), P4092 (checksum), P6757 (exposure time), P6790 (f-number), P6789 (ISO speed), P31 (instance of), P2151 (focal length), P6216 (copyright status), P275 (copyright license), P1259 (coordinates of the point of view), P1071 (location of creation). Rose Abrams (talk) 12:49, 3 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Rose Abrams: All totally reasonable, but no one is currently doing any significant work on the Upload Wizard. I'd say, file a phabricator ticket, and someone may pick it up when they are working on this again. - Jmabel ! talk 05:19, 6 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
✓ Done, filed as phab:T409401. Rose Abrams (talk) 08:57, 6 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Science Competition 2025

[edit]

Requesting to open an upload link for Wiki Science Competition 2025 Philippines to run from November 15 to December 15, 2025. https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wsc-ph --Filipinayzd (talk) 12:53, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

This is really short notice, and this page is barely monitored. Does anyone know if there is a better place to request this? - Jmabel ! talk 18:52, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Filipinayzd: At worst, people should be able to use https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaign:wsc-int - Jmabel ! talk 20:16, 20 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Kruusamägi: do you have any idea whose attention needs to be drawn to this? - Jmabel ! talk 20:20, 20 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Filipinayzd: I opened the campaign until the end of the year and also updated the upload form. So there is an active campaign in the Philippines? Do you need a CentralNotice banner? Is there a landing page etc? Please contact me on this. Kruusamägi (talk) 11:59, 21 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Science Competition in Switzerland

[edit]

Trying to open the upload link for the Wiki Science Competition 2025 in Switzerland to run from November 15th to December 15th, 2025, and it appears the competiton is ended. No matter which browser (Firefox, Chrome) or equipment (PC, Laptop). From this Link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Science_Competition_2025_in_Switzerland goes to this one: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Campaign:wsc-ch and then to this: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wsc-ch Would you mind to solve it? Thanks Luis Scarabino Scarabinol (talk) 16:44, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Scarabinol: I'm honestly not sure what you are seeing. The page sequence is as you say; I don't see what at https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=wsc-ch would have you think the competition is ended. It asks me to drop files to share, or to share from Flickr. What do you see there instead? - Jmabel ! talk 19:49, 20 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I see the following text: "Wiki Science Competition 2025 ist beendet.
Du kannst dich mit weiteren Bilder beteiligen, allerdings werden diese nicht mehr für den Wettbewerb in Betracht gezogen."
While the time to participate suppose to run until December 15th, 2025
Doesn't it appears on your page? Scarabinol (talk) 07:04, 21 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Scarabinol: No, it does not. I get "Welcome to the Science Photo Competition! This is the upload wizard for scientific photos and images," and the usual start of the Upload Wizard. Sounds like a question either for the people running the contest or for COM:VP/T. - Jmabel ! talk 20:02, 21 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Scarabinho was right and I also noticed it but it's now solved for Switzerland -- Giles Laurent (talk) 20:43, 21 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Ah, so it presumably worked for me because I had never accessed the page before. - Jmabel ! talk 00:57, 22 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
